At Deer Lodge Centre, Complex Continuing Care (CCC) supports residents with significant and ongoing medical needs. CCC is a specialized form of hospital care that provides ongoing, medically complex services. It focuses on diagnosing and treating sudden, severe illnesses or injuries, stabilizing and managing multiple chronic conditions, supporting recovery, and delivering specialized rehabilitation.
This level of care is often longer-term and transitional, helping patients improve their functioning so they can eventually return home, move to a retirement residence, or transition to a long-term care facility. It relies on a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team, including physicians, nurses, occupational and physical therapists, and dietitians, working together to optimize each person’s quality of life and independence. Many people are unaware that Deer Lodge Centre brings together experts across all of these disciplines in one place._
Residents in Complex Continuing Care require specialized equipment, adapted spaces, and coordinated support from an experienced team. For them, Deer Lodge Centre is home, a place where they receive daily medical care, rehabilitation, comfort, and dignity, enabling them to live as fully as possible.

Why Complex Continuing Care Matters
Deer Lodge Centre is the only site in Manitoba that offers Complex Continuing Care. There are 122 Complex Continuing Care beds at Deer Lodge Centre across Lodges 5, 6, and 7, and referrals come from every health region in the province.
While Deer Lodge Centre receives significantly less funding for medications and supplies than acute care hospitals, the residents living in these units have needs comparable in complexity to patients on a teaching medical unit at Grace Hospital or a non-teaching medical unit at St. Boniface Hospital.
