November 1-30, 2017

Susan Moxley Cote has been an x-ray technologist at Deer Lodge Centre for 15 years—and a quilter for 12. She recently presented an exquisite work of art to the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation: the Poppy Mosaic Quilt. The Foundation will auction off the quilt through an online auction this November.

“I thought it would be a lovely way to honour our veterans and to raise funds to support the services they receive here at Deer Lodge centre,” Susan says. Her inspiration was the famous poem by Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, which begins:

“In Flanders fields the poppies blow Between the crosses, row on row…”

Susan retired from Deer Lodge on January 20, 2017 but continues to work at the centre on a casual basis. “I’m way past retirement age but I’m not ready to leave. I love the people I work with, I love the patients. We’re all part of this family. I’ve felt that nowhere else. Working with the patients and residents here has also taught me how to help my own parents.”
