WE’VE GRANTED $200,000 TO DEER LODGE CENTRE FOR IMPROVEMENTS IN BARIATRIC AND DEMENTIA CARE!

Today is a big day. Today we finally get to share the wonderful news that we have been able to disburse, $200,000, the largest disbursement in our organization’s history, to Deer Lodge Centre (DLC)! These funds, the first installment of a $750,000 total commitment, will be used for needed improvements in the Bariatric Unit and refurbishment of the T7 dementia care unit at the Centre.

The refurbishment of the T7 dementia unit will include the kitchen and dining area to provide better sightlines and flow. The addition of memory centres, areas of the unit designed to mimic the outside world, will be added to soothe and provide purpose for dementia patients in their care. These centres will include dolls in a nursery, offices with papers and typewriters, and clothing and home goods to attempt to stimulate memory and provide a calming environment. Additionally, paint colours will be used to denote areas of the unit so that patients can better orient themselves to their surroundings.

Lodge 5 Bariatric improvements include a new bathing suite and additional beds to provide comfortable and safe care for bariatric residents who call DLC home!

“To be able to grant this money to Deer Lodge Centre on behalf of our generous donors feels incredible. Deer Lodge has been part of our community for more than 100 years and it’s a wonderful feeling to continue to have a huge impact on the well-being of Manitobans.” – Jim Kurz, Chair | Deer Lodge Centre Foundation Board of Directors

“Deer Lodge Centre was originally established as a rehabilitation hospital for soldiers returning home from WWI and that legacy is not something we take for granted. To be able to continue to provide cutting-edge care at DLC now not only for Veterans but for the community is remarkable. As dementia becomes more and more prevalent in our society, Deer Lodge Centre will continue to be here providing exceptional care for generations to come.” – Nicole LaTourelle, Executive Director | Deer Lodge Centre Foundation

“The significant financial commitment from the Deer Lodge Centre Foundation will improve the lives of patients and residents, create environments that support family interaction with their relatives, and improve safety for the staff. On behalf of DLC, I want to thank the Foundation Board and staff for making lives better.” – Kevin Scott, Chief Operating Officer | Deer Lodge Centre

We’re just getting started and $550,000 more needs to be raised to complete these essential projects. Want to be a part of it? DONATE TODAY!
