ENRICHED LIVES, NEW OPPORTUNITIES, AND BETTER CARE FOR RESIDENTS AND PATIENTS

The existing courtyard, originally designed in 1987, is restrictive and unappealing. More importantly, it fails to meet the needs of our residents and patients. Behind the austere, uninviting, and inaccessible veneer of the existing courtyard lies a unique opportunity for those with the vision to see; a new Courtyard resplendent in appearance, therapeutic for all who venture there and reflective of new science that champions the natural environment for mental and physical wellbeing – and we need your help to make it a reality!

Courtyard Refurbishment 1

The needs of Deer Lodge Centre’s residents and patients are as unique and varied as the residents themselves. The coming together of innovation, care, and our ongoing commitment to our residents and patients is reflected in our proposed revitalization of the Courtyard. It is through this careful planning that the needs of those in chronic or bariatric care, or residents in long-term health care, have all been considered.

With the renewed Deer Lodge Centre Courtyard, the vision becomes a reality. Residents and patients will move freely through extensive winding paths specifically designed to minimize the potential for slip and fall or tripping incidents while promoting physical activity.

The benefits include reducing stress and anxiety, promoting less exit-seeking or agitated behaviours for residents with cognitive impairment, and helping maintain circadian rhythms, improving sleep. The Courtyard will provide opportunities for socialization, meaningful activity and exercise, and support families and staff in caring for all the residents and patients.

The Deer Lodge Centre Courtyard represents innovation in long-term health care not seen elsewhere. For all of us, residents, patients, family, and staff alike, the Courtyard will touch us in ways both profound and personal.
